DIY Steps Summary
Double Roller Blinds

Double roller blinds use two roller blinds on one bracket system: one front fabric and one back fabric. This draft follows Apollo’s simple installation-guide flow while using Shade & Story’s double roller installation guide as the main product-specific reference up to Step 4 only: bracket positioning, bracket fixing, inserting the bottom roller and inserting the top roller.

Key difference from single roller blinds: the front blind uses a reverse roll and the back blind uses a standard roll. Install the blind set in the ordered front/back arrangement; do not swap fabrics during installation unless the product hardware allows it.

1. Tools You Need

You must have all these tools before installing roller blinds.

  1. Metal tape measure
  2. Pencil
  3. Drill with suitable drill bit
  4. Screwdriver or driver bit
  5. Spirit level
  6. Step ladder
  7. Wall plugs or suitable fixings for your surface

1. Before you start

  • Check the order label and confirm which fabric is the front blind and which fabric is the back blind.
  • Check which side each control chain will sit on.
  • Hold the bracket set in position and make sure both fabrics will clear handles, locks, tiles, architraves and sliding-door fins.
  • Keep the two blinds level with each other. A small bracket misalignment can make one blind track unevenly.
  • Do not remove packaging from the fabric until you are ready to fit the blind into the brackets.

2. Fit the bracket options

  1. Double roller brackets can usually be positioned in the same broad fixing styles as roller blinds. Choose the method that matches the measurement and mounting surface.

Top fixing: brackets are screwed into the top of the reveal.

Face fixing: brackets are screwed onto a facing surface such as the wall, architrave or window frame.

Side fixing: brackets are screwed into the side walls of the reveal.

3. Mark the bracket positions

  1. Place the first bracket in position and mark the screw holes with a pencil.
  2. Use a spirit level to mark the second bracket at the same height.
  3. For wider blinds, install any centre support bracket in line with the end brackets and away from the fabric rolls or controls.
  4. Check the bracket spacing against the blind width before drilling.

4. Drill and fix the brackets

  1. Drill pilot holes at the marked points.
  2. Insert wall plugs if required for plaster, masonry or tiled surfaces.
  3. Screw the brackets firmly into place.
  4. Check the brackets are level and secure before lifting the blind set.

Use fixings that suit the surface. If you are fixing into masonry, tile, steel, aluminium or a hollow wall, use the appropriate plugs or anchors rather than relying only on the screws supplied.

5. Fit the double roller blind set

  1. Identify the control-chain end and the pin/idler end.
  2. Lift the control-chain end into the bracket first.
  3. Guide the pin/idler end into the opposite bracket until it locks securely.
  4. If your product has a cassette, linked bracket or cover, clip it into place after the rollers are seated.
  5. Lower each fabric a short distance to check that the front and back blinds move independently and do not rub.

Child Safety

The cord retaining device must be installed at the maximum distance possible from the control mechanism to prevent looped cords from becoming slack. Place the retaining device on the wall and mark the position of the screw hole(s) with a pencil. Attach the retaining device to the wall using the fixings provided.
